At 16 I died twice, within one week, due to a severe brain injury. The injury left me completely paralyzed. The doctors told me that I would never walk again, to expect a lower ability for learning and that I’ll never be “normal” again. They really had little faith in my recovery and basically left me in a hospital bed for dead. Surprisingly, I made it through the trauma and began rehabilitation. During recovery I was determined to do everything the doctors told me I could not, and that began with movement. I remember sitting in my hospital bed motionless for three days (because I couldn’t move) begging my big toe to move. Finally, after hours and hours of trying, my toe moved. From that moment forward I knew I would recover. During the recovery process I gained an affinity for science and learning how the body works. This led to a biomedical science degree and my 20+ years of helping other humans move and feel better.
